Canada — Summer 2015

Canada — Summer 2015

A second trip north, late summer 2015. In Laura’s words.

Rainy morning breakfast crew

I don’t ever give money to homeless people especially while I am with my kids. Today while I was with both a man asked me for soap so he could bathe. My heart felt so heavy as I walked through Walgreens picking up Olivia’s pictures for a school project. We ended up getting him the soap and other things as well. I called him over and he said to me “I didn’t think you were going to get me anything,” and I explained that I hadn’t planned on it. I watched him go across the street to shower with the soap I had just bought him. Very humbling experience…and now comes trying to explain this to Evan. They both want to know who I was talking to and Evan wants to know why I don’t know his name. Maybe if I see him again I will ask him his name and buy him lunch.
